Hannes Meintjes

The Artist was born in Messina in the Northern Transvaal in 1944, but spent many years of his life in the then Rhodesia. After leaving school he studied Commercial Art in Cape Town. He returned to Rhodesia where the next decade was spent as Commercial Artist, followed by two years as Newspaper Cartoonist.
Since 1980 he has been painting Full-Time in the RSA exhibiting his work in various Galleries through the country. His work has been acquired by buyers from European Countries, Britain, USA, Canada, Australia as well as other Countries.

He paints only in Oils and his subject matter varies widely ranging from Landscapes, Seascapes, Wildlife, Figure Studies, Flower Studies, Still Life, Harbour Scenes, Steam Engines. Sizes of paintings vary from Small works to Large.

Post-script April 2009: Hannes is no longer able to paint due to an arterial disease which has over the years got progressively worse to the stage where his balance and co-ordination have been affected. The condition is progressive and it is very unlikely that he will be able to paint again.
